Why We Love ‘Ageless Grace’ for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Care
All of our staff at Pleasantries Adult Day Services are trained to lead Ageless Grace, and it’s something we do every morning following breakfast. We move, we laugh and most importantly, we have fun! But what is Ageless Grace, you might ask?
Created by Denise Medved, Ageless Grace is a brain fitness program based on neuroplasticity, that activates all five functions of the brain — analytical, strategic, kinesthetic learning, memory/recall, creativity and imagination. Ageless Grace “workouts” include 21 anti-aging techniques and tools to address the physical skills needed for lifelong comfort and optimal function. The movements are designed to be performed seated in a chair, allowing everyone to participate, regardless of physical ability. We do these in our four-season porch, overlooking the lake!
By taking part in Ageless Grace, our guests are practicing anti-aging techniques and skills, in our fun and safe environment. Through these techniques, we’re targeting...
Joint mobility, flexibility and circulation
Right and left brain coordination, as well as hand and eye coordination
Cognitive and memory function
Systemic health and cardiovascular conditioning
Balance, alignment and fall prevention
Self esteem and confidence
Playfulness, sense of humor and engagement
There are a lot of symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, dementias and cognitive memory loss, and with Ageless Grace, we address all of the symptoms coupled with these disorders and the overall aging process. With each morning workout, we focus on creativity, playfulness, variety, polarity, sounds, words and games. We dance, stretch, flex, recall, sing, play, and everything in between — all the while releasing endorphins, waking up our minds and building companionship and teamwork amongst our guests.
